Face Gadgets: Winter Skincare

Moving from a tropical island to the middle of the desert was a huge shock for my skin. I’m used to a warm, humid climate in Hawai’i. During winter, it’s always above 50° F and 90% humid. Las Vegas is dry and cold in the winter. At this moment, it’s about 45° F with 26% humidity.

A little background about my skin: I have combination skin that is typically oily around the T-zone and quite dry everywhere else. I’m also very prone to hyper pigmentation if I get even the littlest pimple. It’s been more dry recently but still a bit oily. I had to adjust my skincare accordingly. This is the winter skincare routine that’s been keeping my skin happy! 🙂

Every morning:

  1. I start by washing my face with my konjac sponge and warm water. This is enough to cleanse my face without soap.
  2. I pat my face dry with a microfiber towel.
  3. I soak a cotton pad with rose water and pat across my whole face. (My favorite cotton sheets are these ones from Korea.)
  4. Once the rose water is absorbed, I spread half a dropper full of the It’s Skin Vitamin C serum onto my hands and gently pat it all over my face and neck. There’s a lot of patting in my skincare routine.
  5. Last, I finish with my favorite Lancome Energie De Vie moisturizing cream. And I’m all ready for my day!

Every night:

    1. If I’m wearing makeup, I use a cotton pad soaked in Lancome Bifacil to remove my eye makeup. It breaks down even the toughest eyeliner and mascara. I follow that with the rose micellar cleansing milk from Sephora to remove my face makeup. Now that I have a weird residue all over my face, I cleanse my face with Lika’s Papaya Soap.
      • Note: Contrary to popular belief, papaya soap does not whiten or bleach your skin. It lightens skin to its natural color by means of exfoliation. Papaya soap is loaded with the enzyme papain, which is a mild exfoliant. If you’ve used papaya soap in the past and were disappointed that it “didn’t work” for you, that’s because it’s simply not able to make you any lighter than your natural skin color.
    2. I pat my skin dry then wipe my face with a cotton pad soaked in Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner.
    3. I follow the toner with the COSRX Galactomyces Essence. Essence is essential! It makes the following steps extra effective!
    4. My nighttime serum is the Botanics Radiant Youth Super Serum. I pump it into my hands then pat it all over my face and neck. (Don’t forget your neck!)
    5. I am loving the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Cream to moisturize at night. I spread an even layer all over. Last, I use the Josie Maran Argan Oil Light to seal in the extra dry parts of my face like under my eyes.
    6. Almost done! I do love a good sheet mask. Once or twice a week, I’ll skip my serum in favor of a sheet mask. My favorite at the moment is the Black Pearl from My Beauty Diary.

In every step of my skincare routine, I always pay attention to my neck. It has the same delicate skin as your face and can start to age quickly. Don’t forget to take your skincare all the way down to your neck! I also don’t consider skincare a chore. I like trying out new products. At night, my skincare routine helps me to unwind and get relaxed for bed.

One last secret: I sleep with a humidifier every night. This keeps my skin and my (very sensitive) nose from drying out.
